JESUS BRINGS A WIDOW’S SON TO LIFE
Luke 7:11—17
Jesus went to a town called Nain. His disciples and a big crowd of people came with him. They wanted to know more about Jesus and learn from Him.
As they entered the town, a boy who had died was being carried out. The boy’s mother was there, weeping. The boy was her only child, and she was a widow. Lots of people from the town were with her. Everyone was crying and filled with sadness.
When Jesus saw the mother, his heart went out to her. He wanted to help her. Jesus said, “Don’t cry.”
He went over and touched the coffin. The people carrying it stood still. They were probably wondering what Jesus was going to do.
Jesus said, “Young man, I tell you: Get up!” The boy sat up and began talking. Jesus helped him get up and walked back to his mother.
His mother was filled with joy! She was so happy that her son was again. All of the people were excited too. They thanked God and were amazed at what happened.
The people knew that Jesus was no ordinary person. They said, “a great prophet is with us.” Then they said, “God has come to help his people.” They praised Jesus and told their friends and family about him. The news of Jesus’ miracle spread through the country.
MEMORY VERSE
I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die.

TO THE PARENTS
We are not dead like the boy in the story, but we are dead in a different way. We are dead in sin. We can’t save ourselves or make ourselves alive again. God had compassion on us and sent Jesus to raise us to life in Him. The widow’s son didn’t earn his second chance at life. Can we earn our new life in Christ? (No; it is a free gift of God) The Bible says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8:9) When we say the Apostle’s Creed, we confess our belief in “the resurrectio
Jesus shows love and care for us too. He comforts us through His Word and baptism when we are feeling sad or hopeless. God’s Word tells us that Jesus loved us so much that He died on the cross for our sins. He has power over sin, death, and the devil. No problem is too little or too big for Jesus to handle. He also uses us—His children—to help others feel better. He uses our friends and family to remind us of His love and care. Jesus is always ready to turn our sorrow into joy!
PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your love and compassion that is so great that it can overcome my greatest sadness. Help me to show love to others when they are sad and tell them what You have done. Amen
